Aloha! My name is Ms. Armstrong, and I teach English to seventh and eighth graders on the beautiful island of O’ah
u, “The Gathering Place”.
(This is a picture of me, taken by my friend Kim. I was in a poetry festival and I needed a picture for the publicity brochure, so we tried to make one in which I looked very artsy and interesting, but also approachable and nice. In my opinion, it appears that I am smiling with great mirth at a magical cockroach on Kim’s floor that is making her refrigerator turn into a swirly.)
I am originally from Queensbury, New York, which is an extremely beautiful place with gentle, ancient mountains and many clear, refreshing lakes and ponds. I moved to Hawaii in 2003 because I thought it would be an interesting place to live, and I was right!
Here in Hawaii, I love to surf, boogie-board, hike the many trails, but most of all, I love to run. I have run the Honolulu marathon four times! (I didn’t finish the first time, though.) I also like to throw pottery on the wheel.
When I am not playing outside or playing with clay, you can almost always find me with my nose in a book. I do not watch any television, because I think time is valuable and television steals more time than anything I know. I read books the way most people watch tv, and I want every kid I know to love reading as much as I do.
Read strong!

Wow the time on here is so messed up / off . . . Its 9:14 pm. HA! It is kind of funny am I right? Well I should get to bed and get going. I don’t want to be a “SPAMMER”. Wow I love this thingy!
I bid you all farewell goodnight,
Close your eyes,
Shut them tight,
Lay your head on the soft pillow,
And listen to the song,
Of the weeping willow,
Woosh and blow, Woosh it goes,
This is its lullaby,
Its time to say bye bye and goodnight!

I’m home alone . . . with my cousin who slept over. It’s so . . . how you say “BORGALING”. Hahaha I like that word. “Borgaling”. “Magical cockroach”, yeah I have them to but they hang in the sink past 10:00. It was funny because last night I threw a cup in there (the sink) and crashed the party. They all abandoned the sink. It was disturbing and sick watching them all scramble out of there. I don’t think I’m going to eat out of any dishes this week. I still have to tell me mom about the “magical roaches” in the sink.

I was just reading your post The Turning Point. I work for NOLS and wanted to let you know about the scholarships we offer: http://www.nols.edu/courses/financialaid/ We are also having a contest of our own now through October 31 where the prize is a NOLS Wind River Wilderness course (but you can apply the tuition of that course to any other) + gear and domestic travel. http://www.nols.edu/contest Cheers!

Wow. . .thanks so much for that info! And thanks for reading; I’m shocked that anyone would read this besides my students. Even they hardly ever do.
